RCPCH Refers PA to DUET
Following a Review of the Diagnosis and Treatment of Juvenile Pernicious Anaemia, written by Martyn, the Chairman of the PAS, the Chairman of the Clinical Standards Committee of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has referred the issues relating to the treatment of Pernicious Anaemia to the Database of Uncertainty of the Effects of Treatment (DUETS).
DUETS exists to identify treatments that are ineffective (or possibly ineffective) that will help researchers prioritise areas of research that would benefit patients.
"This could be the first step towards finding a more effective treatment for B12 Deficiency whether that deficiency is caused by PA or not" says Martyn.
"What is clear is that the current treatment regime used on children and infants is completely unsatisfactory" he says.  "Any new treatment regime that is developed for children will hopefully be made available to  adults"
More information about this will be made available in the next newsletter.
