Chairman's Welcome

A Welcome message from the Chair of the PA Society:

First of all I would like to welcome to our online community.

martyn_120This site is used and visited by many different types of people. It is used as a source of information not only by patients and sufferers of Pernicious Anaemia but also by their family and friends. Medical professionals also use the site to appreciate the patient perspective on P.A. while others come here to assess the impact of the disease on other conditions.

If you are a patient of Pernicious Anaemia you may have recently been diagnosed and are searching for information about the condition  Or you may have been diagnosed in the past and, using this site, will be able to share your experiences with others.  Likewise you can use the site to find out the latest developments relating to P.A.

Most people who visit us do so to find out more about the disease.  Just being able to exchange information with others who are experiencing the same symptoms and problems reassures patients that they are not alone and need not feel isolated.

This is very much a patient and member-centred society.  And as we approach our second anniversary of being registered as a charity, the trustees are determined that the society’s work will continue to be concentrated on the needs of patients.

The society now has formal business structure and we have identified achievable goals to ensure that the society is able to grow to meet the increasing demands on our resources. We have also written and adopted a series of policies to ensure we comply with all relevant legislation for the benefit of our members.

I do hope that our website will help you to better understand what can be a debilitating condition. If understanding the condition will enable you, or a member of your family, or a friend to better manage the condition we will have gone some way to achieving our overall aim.

Finally, as we continue to grow, the demands on our very limited resources continue too.  If you would like to help run the society in any way you can, please get in touch with me.

Welcome once again and remember, you are not alone.
